I stopped planning my whole life
Every December used to follow the same frantic script. I’d sit down with a brand-new, expensive 12-month planner and try to map out my entire existence. I thought that if I could just see the next 365 days on paper, I’d finally feel safe. I thought structure was the...
Why I am slowing down this month
There is a subtle, collective anxiety that tends to arrive in November. As the clocks turn back and the afternoon light begins to fail us, the world around us actually seems to speed up. The end-of-year pressure mount - deadlines tighten, social calendars fill, and...
Sensory self-care for you
We’ve all been there: you’ve finished your to-do list, you’ve done your morning mindfulness steps, yet your body still feels like it’s humming at a frequency of 100mph. You’re physically still, but internally, you’re on a treadmill. In the wellness world, we talk a...
The trap of performative positivity
A few years ago, I got feedback in a performance review that stuck with me. It wasn't about the quality of my work nor about whether I met my targets. But about… my face. “You have a resting bitch face,” someone joked. Another time, I was labeled an “introvert” as...
How creativity heals mind, body and soul
Can you imagine a doctor prescribing art? This is happening in Canada, US and Switzerland, patients were being given museum passes, guided tours and creative activities as part of their treatment. It makes sense. I know how refreshed I feel after wandering through a...
Feel grounded in 5 seconds
I want to share one simple thing I do before every meeting to feel grounded. And why it changed how I show up. There was a time when I wore busyness like a badge of honour. Back-to-back meetings. Emails on my phone. Notifications that never stopped. I would sprint...
The life-changing power of real listening
Listening may mean staying quiet while someone else talks. But true listening builds trust and deepens relationships. It is active, and a presence practice that can be cultivated. Meditation taught me how to notice my thoughts without reacting to them. It helped me...
Nine rules for everyday wellness
These are the nine rules I come back to again and again. They’re not strict routines, but gentle anchors. Here’s how I practice each one in real life: flawed, imperfect, but consistent. 1. Move a little every day (the 10-min rule) “When in doubt, start small.” There...
Protecting your energy: the power of saying no
If there’s one thing I’ve learned from years of working in high-pressure environments and then transitioning into wellness, it’s this: protecting your energy is not optional - it’s essential. One of the simplest, yet most powerful shifts I’ve made is mastering the art...
My personal journey with morning mindfulness
My journey towards morning mindfulness began almost by accident. After years of starting each day in a rushed frenzy of email checking, I found myself increasingly anxious and disconnected. The turning point came after a particularly stressful week when I realised I couldn’t remember a single morning that hadn’t felt like a battle against time. That’s when I decided to reclaim my mornings and create a more intentional start to each day.
I started small, setting my alarm just fifteen minutes earlier than usual. Instead of reaching for my phone, I would sit quietly in my favourite chair by the window, watching the early morning light filter through the leaves. At first, it felt strange and almost uncomfortable to sit in silence. My mind would race with thoughts of pending tasks and looming deadlines. But gradually, I learned to acknowledge these thoughts without letting them hijack my attention, letting them drift by like clouds in the sky.
As the weeks passed, these quiet moments became the cornerstone of my day. I expanded my practice to include gentle stretching and a cup of tea, savoured slowly while listening to the world wake up around me. I noticed how my breathing would naturally slow down during these moments, and how the tension I habitually carried in my shoulders would begin to dissolve.
The most surprising outcome wasn’t just the sense of calm I developed – it was how this practice rippled through the rest of my day. Meetings that once left me drained now felt more manageable. I found myself responding to challenges with greater patience and clarity. Even my relationships improved, as I was more present and attentive in conversations. What began as a simple experiment in morning quiet has transformed into a vital practice that grounds me in the present moment and sets a positive tone for whatever the day might bring.
