I didn’t have a breaking point

There’s a certain kind of life story we’re used to hearing. Something happens. A breaking point. A moment so undeniable that everything has to change. The job is left. The relationship ends. The person becomes someone new. For a long time, I thought transformation had...

I stopped waiting for motivation

I used to wait for those intense bursts of energy to get things done. Like a full afternoon, an all-nighter, or the perfect window where everything finally clicks. It felt productive in the moment but it never lasted. Because a few days later, I’d be back where I...

Upgrading your inner narrative

We spend 100% of our lives in our own company. Let that sink in. Yet, for many of us, the person living inside our heads can be the toughest critic, the most relentless taskmaster, or the most demanding roommate imaginable. We’d never speak to a friend, a client, or...

"We shape our buildings; thereafter they shape us." - Winston Churchill For a long time, I thought self-care was a task. I would put meditate or journal on my to-do list, right next to respond to emails and file taxes. I was trying to perform my way into a state of...

High-vibrational “no”

We live in a world that often rewards "yes." Say yes to the extra project, yes to the last-minute favour, yes to the social engagement you're dreading. We're told it makes us a team player, a good friend, or a diligent professional. But what if every "yes" to...

The trap of performance busyness

In today’s fast-paced world, the pressure to always be “on” can feel overwhelming. The culture of performance busyness - where success is measured by how packed a schedule is - often pushes us to ignore our natural rhythms and well-being in pursuit of achievement....

The sound of silence

What moving from Hong Kong to London taught me about communication. I used to think silence was empty space that needed filling. Then I learned it was actually full of everything I'd been missing. Picture this: A traditional Hong Kong tea house on a Sunday. Steam...

Why where you are shapes who you become

We often blame ourselves when we can’t stick to a goal. Not disciplined enough. Not smart enough. Not ready. But what if the issue isn’t you? What if the issue is the room you’re in? One idea has stuck with me for years, and it’s this: environment dictates...

My personal journey with self-care

For the longest time, I thought self-care was something other people had time for. My days were a blur of commitments, and taking time for myself felt selfish – or worse, unproductive. I told myself I didn’t need it, but deep down, I knew something had to change. I was running on empty, and it showed in my energy, my relationships, and my ability to handle stress.

It all started with an evening ritual: a cup of herbal tea and a few pages of a book I loved. At first, it felt small, almost insignificant. But as the days turned into weeks, this quiet time became my anchor. It wasn’t about the tea or the book; it was about the pause – the moment to slow down and honour my need for rest. I started looking forward to it, savouring the calm it brought after a busy day.

From there, self-care began to take root in other areas of my life. I started exploring activities that felt restorative instead of draining, like gentle stretching before bed or a warm bath with Epsom salts to soothe my body. Skincare, once a rushed part of my routine, became a deliberate act of self-nurturing. I swapped harsh products for soothing, natural ones and treated it as a time to reconnect with myself.

Over time, I realised that self-care wasn’t about elaborate gestures or following trends. It was about tuning into my needs and giving myself permission to prioritise them. Some days, it’s a long walk outdoors to clear my head. Other days, it’s journalling to release emotions I’ve been holding in. The beauty of self-care is its flexibility  – it evolves as I do.

This journey has taught me that taking care of myself isn’t selfish. It’s the foundation that allows me to show up fully for the people and things I love. If you’re just starting out, know that it’s okay to begin small. Even the simplest rituals, done with intention, can transform the way you feel and live.
